Postin’ mixtapes on muh new tumblrrr… Follow? :)
alisonj:

Finally. Here it is. My autumn mixtape, dedicated solely to artists from Canada’s East Coast. I like to think it’s sort of like autumn itself - starts of with a bang, a burst of colour… but by the end of it, you just want to curl up with a good book and wait for the snow.
It’s a little heavy on the Nova Scotia side, but what do you expect from a Cape Bretoner living in Halifax? I hope you enjoy it; support the artists if ya like ‘em :)
Tracklist:

01. Territory - Two Hours Traffic (Charlottetown, PEI)
02. Commotion - Jimmy Swift Band (Halifax, NS)
03. I Was Here - Slowcoaster (Cape Breton, NS)
04. Float - Painting Purple (Cape Breton, NS)
05. Wagon Wheel - Matt Andersen (Bairdsville, NB)
06. One Track Mind - Classified [featuring Joel Plaskett] (Enfield and Halifax, NS)
07. Weighty Ghost - Wintersleep (Halifax, NS)
08. In the Storm - The Easy Bleeders (Cape Breton, NS)
09. Red Heart - Hey Rosetta! (St. John’s, NL)
10. Silver Lining - Steve Poltz (Halifax, NS)
11. Celebrate - Rose Cousins (Halifax, NS)
12. Broken in Two - Jill Barber (Halifax, NS)*
13. Rail Rides - Dave Gunning (Pictou, NS)
14. Your Heart - Matt Mays (Cole Harbour, NS)
15. Face of the Earth - Joel Plaskett (Halifax, NS)
16. Man of Two Minds - The Trews (Antigonish, NS)

*sure, she was born in Ontario, and lives in Vancouver now, but she played here for so long that I think we can claim her…

Pink Hair.

alisonj:

Fundraising for the Run for the Cure has been going pretty well. However, I’ve decided to add an incentive. With the run a little over 2 weeks away, I’ve decided that if I can raise $500 or more by October 2, I will dye some of my hair pink for the run!

Tumblrs, you can make this a reality!
Check out my donation page, or email me (alisonalison(dot)j(at)gmail(dot)com) to see how you can help :)

Also, find my new tumblr over at alisonj!

Dear Tumblverse;

I would like to introduce you to AlisonJ. That is, me. Granted, there’s not much going on there right now, but I think I am phasing out my time as digitaljourney. Though I may stay around to give relatively anonymous snarky comments…
On the new blog, I promise you more original content, and most definitely more original photography (though I can’t promise you that it will be great!). Perhaps even my own music, if I have the time!
Hope you continue to follow, and thanks for helping me make my time as digitaljourney super pleasant! :)

BaR2D2, Cocktail-Cyborg Relations.
All those beautiful, beautiful visions spinning about in your head have been made into gorgeous alcoholic reality… Bar2D2 is capable of making your basic cocktails, and also incorporates a beer elevator to put a frosty brew into your hands upon request.
According to Daily Planet, the designer has also created a custom drink-mixing software that communicates to the bot via bluetooth. Input the type of liquor and mix that is currently in BaR2D2’s dispensers, and it will generate a list of possible drinks. Choose one, and BaR2D2 mixes it up for you. Manipulate the controller (formerly a miniature helicopter control) and the robot brings it to you, as well.
If you are a do-it-yourselfer, check out the creator’s instructable. Make me one. I want it at my wedding. And in my apartment…

…it has been estimated that well over half of all Americans alive today have experienced childhood directly (Suess, 1983). In fact, the actual numbers are probably much higher, since these data are based on self-reports which may be subject to social desirability biases and retrospective distortion.

…the proposed DSM-IV will almost certainly include the following core features:

  • Congenital onset
  • Dwarfism
  • Emotional lability and immaturity
  • Knowledge deficits
  • Legume anorexia

Read it. And be sure to check out the references!

“You may not be her first, her last, or her only..she loved before she may love again. But if she loves you now, what else matters? She’s not perfect - you aren’t either, and the two of you may never be perfect together but if she can make you laugh, cause you to think twice, and admit to being human and making mistakes, hold onto her and give her the most you can. She may not be thinking about you every second of the day, but she will give you a part of her that she knows you can break - her heart. So don’t hurt her, don’t change her, don’t analyze and don’t expect more than she can give. Smile when she makes you happy, let her know when she makes you mad, and miss her when she’s not there.”
— Bob Marley

Highlights of the evening:

  • Pretended to be a mining engineer (that didn’t work for very long…)
  • Met WAlex, though briefly.
  • Watched a bar band be completely outdone by a guy with a boombox playing “Good Vibrations”.
  • Walked through town. Again and again.
  • Late night, Halifax donairs…. *droool*

Now, I just need to get up enough energy to get something done before I have to go to work tonight… but I really would like to stay in bed all day and watch TV…

meganmcisaac:

“There is a double-edged sword to working in the style: it’s really easy to dismiss by saying, “Oh anyone can do that.” Whereas I think the real answer is that everybody has the tools, and anybody can sometimes pull off a photo like many of the photos in the book either intentionally or unintentionally, but I think we all know from taking our own digital photographs, that it’s actually pretty hard to take a really satisfying photo, one that’s interesting and has emotional qualities to it. The original subtitle for the book was Photography and the Ephemeral Image, and I’m still enamored with that idea: once you get past the tools you start engaging with the ephemeral. How is it you’re able to take interesting photos using really basic tools on a regular basis?”
